The School also runs shorter courses for anyone hungry for mathematics.
Summer term
Anyone who wants to learn mathematics at speed can join the summer term in weeks 27, 29 and 31 (early July to early August). You can also sign up for single weeks – summer term students have ranged from keen eighth-graders to final-year upper secondary students preparing for their exams. Depending on space, one or more students who complete the whole summer term may be offered a place at the School of Mathematics.
The summer term is taught in Finnish, but the staff speak English. It is a good way to find out whether your Finnish is strong enough for the School of Mathematics, without yet committing to the full two-year programme.
Intensive mathematics courses
We also run short mathematics courses, for example for students preparing for the Matriculation Examination.
See Päivölä’s intensive courses (in Finnish).
Maths and computing camps
In summer the School also runs activities for lower secondary pupils interested in maths and computing. The computing camp in week 29 and the maths camp in week 31 are mainly for pupils going into grades 7–9.
