Who is the School for?

If you’re interested in mathematics

For students who love mathematics, Päivölä offers the chance to develop in many directions. The teaching goes well beyond what upper secondary schools normally offer, above all in content but also in hours, and you can discuss ideas with like-minded people. We also have a large library covering most areas of mathematics, open to students around the clock. You don’t need to be a genius – interest matters most.

If you’re into computing

Computing in the summer term, university courses, learning from friends and, above all, the work placement add up to a technical programme alongside upper secondary school that is unique in Finland. It suits both long-time hobbyists and complete beginners.

If you’re a budding scientist

If you’re interested in the natural sciences, you may not get the most extensive lab courses in the country, although there is equipment and guidance for all kinds of experimental projects. Our strength is rigorous teaching of upper secondary physics theory, backed by strong mathematics and a research-oriented approach. Topics can be treated properly, because the mathematics they need has already been learned.

The teaching has taken students to the Physics Olympiad and to excellent Matriculation Examination results. At university, especially in engineering, students have benefited in the same way from having taken university-level mathematics courses in advance. Advanced chemistry is also part of the programme.

If you’re simply curious

The School prepares you well for many fields, even if none of the above describes you. A broad grounding in science, and upper secondary school in two years with inspiring company in an old stone house in the middle of the Häme countryside – it’s an experience like no other. Our graduates go on to a wide range of studies, and all sorts of passions have been seen in the house.
